What's Happening?
A new graphic novel titled 'Islands in the Sky' has been released, featuring 11 survival stories from the Helene disaster. The novel, which is now available in comic shops nationwide, includes personal accounts from survivors, paired with illustrations
by award-winning comic creators. Matthew Manning, a comic book writer from Asheville, contributed his own family's story, which deals with themes of depression and resilience. The book aims to provide a platform for survivors to share their experiences and has been edited by Andrew Aydin, who ensured that all contributors were compensated for their stories. The project also features new cover art by Asheville resident Jarrett Rutland.
