What's Happening?
Halliburton has been awarded a multi-year contract by Aramco to provide integrated stimulation and completion services for the development of unconventional gas in Saudi Arabia's Jafurah basin. This contract is part of a larger multi-billion-dollar agreement,
expanding Halliburton's involvement in Aramco's unconventional gas program. The company will deploy the Kingdom's first fully integrated intelligent hydraulic fracturing platform using its OCTIV® Auto Frac automation system and Sensori™ fracturing monitoring services. These technologies are designed to optimize fracturing performance in real-time, enhancing operational efficiency and execution consistency across multiple wells. Halliburton's president for the Eastern Hemisphere, Rami Yassine, emphasized the company's long-standing collaboration with Aramco and its commitment to advancing unconventional gas development in the region.
Why It's Important?
This development is significant as it underscores the growing focus on unconventional gas resources in Saudi Arabia, particularly in the Jafurah basin, which is one of the largest unconventional gas programs globally. For Halliburton, this contract not only strengthens its position in the Middle East but also highlights its technological advancements in hydraulic fracturing. The deployment of intelligent fracturing platforms and real-time monitoring services could set new standards for efficiency and reliability in the industry. Additionally, the contract supports Saudi Arabia's strategic goal to increase domestic gas production, which could have broader implications for global energy markets by potentially reducing the Kingdom's reliance on oil exports.
What's Next?
As Halliburton begins its operations in the third quarter of 2026, the company plans to increase its investment in local manufacturing and strengthen its supply chain within Saudi Arabia. This includes expanding workforce development initiatives to support the growing activity in the Jafurah basin. The success of this project could lead to further collaborations between Halliburton and Aramco, potentially influencing other energy companies to adopt similar technologies and strategies in unconventional gas development. The outcomes of this project will be closely watched by industry stakeholders as a benchmark for future unconventional gas projects.
