The lineup for the soundtrack to Netflix’s new country music-steeped movie Heartland has dropped, and it’s full of some of Nashville’s best and brightest names. Featuring songs performed by Jessica Chastain, Carter Faith, and Jennifer Nettles, who all
appear in the film, streaming Nov. 13, it also boasts tracks by Margo Price (alongside actor John Hawkes), Carly Pearce, Channing Wilson, and David Ferguson, among others. The title track, performed by Chastain and Nettles and originally written and recorded by Hailey Whitters, is out now.
Heartland is the story of a former country star, played by Chastain, who returns to Nashville when her niece (played by Faith, in her first on-screen acting role) disappears mysteriously. It’s directed by Shana Feste (Country Strong), and is not the first time that Chastain has recorded her own vocal performances for a movie or television show centered in the country music world. In 2022, she played Tammy Wynette in the Showtime series George & Tammy, alongside Michael Shannon.
“I think the thing I love the most is that it wasn’t about me,” Faith tells Rolling Stone about her first experience as a film actress. “On tour, everyone is working and it’s for everybody, but you’re the name. You’re the person. And in the movie world, we’re all trying to make something together. That was really refreshing to me, and cool.”
