Ella Langley’s run with “Choosin’ Texas” doesn’t seem anywhere near slowing down, and this week, she’s even beating Morgan Wallen – whom she is opening for on select Still the Problem tour dates this year. “Choosin’ Texas” just claimed its seventeenth
week at the top of the Billboard Hot 100, besting Wallen’s previous 16-week run for “Last Night” in 2023. Only Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” and Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” has reigned longer. Time – and the holiday season – will tell just how far “Choosin’ Texas,” which has arguably been the song of the summer, is able to extend its reign.
Wallen and Langley are more collaborators, however, than competitors: their duet, ”I Can’t Love You Anymore,” just hit Number One on Country Airplay, giving Wallen his 22nd hit country single. Wallen, however, got bumped out of the Number Two spot on the Billboard 100 this week by Ariana Grande, who came in behind Langley with “Hate That I Made You Love Me.”
It’s all another feather in the cap of country music, which, last week, claimed all top five spots on the Billboard 100: “Choosin’ Texas,” followed by Wallen’s “Been By Now,” Swift’s “I Knew It, I Knew You,” the Wallen-Langley collab “I Can’t Love You Anymore,” and Lefty’s “Boston.” And it’s one for Langley, too, who is so popular that men have even adopted their own fandom, as “Ella’s Fellas.”
Langley’s Dandelion tour continues this week, stopping at the Moody Center in Austin Texas on Aug. 13.
