Noted music photographer Bob Minkin started going to shows in New York City when he was just 15. Soon after, he was sneaking his camera into venues to document what he saw. The experience led to an assignment to photograph concerts for Relix Magazine
while studying graphic design at the School of Visual Arts. His new book, New York Rocked!, is a gorgeous collection of photographs that chronicles the music scene of the Seventies and Eighties in New York City. Minkin not only curated and shot all the photos, but he put his graphic design degree to use, creating the book’s layout. Rolling Stone caught up with Minkin from his Bay Area home, where he took us through over a dozen photos from his new book.
