Well, the Trump administration has just shared one of its most ironic deportation videos yet. On Thursday, the White House’s official TikTok page used a snippet of Bad Bunny’s song “La Mudanza” to celebrate Donald Trump’s cruel immigration policies in their
latest propaganda clip.
“A round of applause for Donald J Trump because he really crushed it,” the video reads over clips of the president looking victorious before switching over to a montage of migrants getting detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, otherwise known as ICE. The text is a reference to the song’s lyrics, which see Bad Bunny congratulating and thanking his parents for giving birth to him.
Representatives for Bad Bunny did not respond to Rolling Stone’s request for comment.
It’s not the first time that official social media accounts for the White House have used an artist’s music against their will in promotional videos. Since Trump took office for his second term last year, his administration has leaned heavily into these rage-bait style of propaganda videos that make light of deportations, and inhumane, often deadly, immigration enforcement. But this video is especially tone-deaf, given the meaning behind “La Mudanza” and how vocal Bad Bunny has been against Trump and his immigration policies.
“La Mudanza” marks one of Bad Bunny’s most political songs from his Debí Tirar Más Fotos album. The track, and its accompanying music video, references definitive symbols and figures from Puerto Rico’s pro-independence movement, from activist Eugenio María de Hostos to the light blue flag. Bad Bunny even sings, “They killed people for waving the flag, That’s why now I take her everywhere” in Spanish in one of the song’s most defiant lines, referring to a dark chapter in Puerto Rico’s history. The song is a form of resistance that acts as the antithesis of the actions in the White House’s video.
Of course, Puerto Rico has been a U.S. colony since 1898, and the island has long debated its status, especially in light of the disastrous U.S. response to Hurricane Maria during Trump’s first term.
Benito has also spoken out in support of immigrants. Last summer, the Puerto Rican superstar’s music video for “Nuevayol” shared a pro-immigrant message — and even used a voice that sounds a lot like Trump‘s to deliver the sentiment. “I made a mistake. I want to apologize to the immigrants in America. I mean the United States. I know America is the whole continent,” the voice bellows out of a Seventies radio toward the end of the video. “I want to say that this country is nothing without the immigrants. This country is nothing without Mexicans, Dominicans, Puerto Ricans, Colombians, Venezuelans, Cubans.”
Bad Bunny also used his spotlighting moments on two of the world’s biggest stages to condemn the Trump administration’s immigration policies. “Before I say, ‘Thank God,’ I’m going to say, ‘ICE out. We’re not savage. We’re not animals. We’re not aliens. We are humans and we are Americans,” he said during his speech at the 2026 Grammys. “The hate gets more powerful with more hate. The only thing that is more powerful than hate is love.”
During his historic Super Bowl halftime performance, Benito echoed that statement. The Puerto Rican superstar flashed a sign that read “the only thing more powerful than hate is love” during his grand finale. He went on to shout “God bless America,” before naming every single country in the Americas from Chile in the south to Canada in the north as dancers waved flags from each country around him, emphasizing the idea of unity and challenging the government’s insistence on division.
Those bold declarations come after Bad Bunny admitted that he was not taking his Debí Tirar Más Fotos world tour to the U.S. out of concern for his fans’ safety. “There was the issue of — like, fucking ICE could be outside [my concert]. And it’s something that we were talking about and very concerned about,” he said in 2025.
