A new Bridgerton spinoff series is on the way centered around the early days of Lady Violet Bridgerton, the matriarch in the main show.
The limited series doesn’t have a title yet, but per Netflix, it’ll center around the courtship between Violet Ledger
and Viscount Edmund Bridgerton. The main Bridgerton series picks up after Edmund’s death (from an allergic reaction to a bee sting) and focuses on the marriages and romantic prospects of the couple’s eight children.
In Bridgerton, Violet is played by Ruth Gemmell, and in a Season Two flashback, Edmund was portrayed by Rupert Evans. Neither role has been cast yet for the prequel series, though Connie Jenkins-Greig did portray young Violet in another spin-off, Queen Charlotte, focused on the rise of the titular royal.
Bridgerton executive producer Shonda Rhimes and series creator Nicholas Nardini will serve as the writers and showrunners on the spin-off. It’s unclear when the series will go into production. A release date also was not shared.
Along with the spin-off, the main Bridgerton series continues to plough ahead. Production on Season Five is ongoing, with the new slate of episodes set to focus on Violet’s daughter Francesca, played by Hannah Dodd, and the heiress Michaela Stirling, played by Masali Baduza. The two featured as friends in Season Four, with Francesca married to Michaela’s brother, Lord John Stirling. But after John’s death at the end of Season Four, Season Five will pick up two years later as Francesca and Michaela’s friendship turns romantic. This will be the first season of Bridgerton to center primarily on a queer love story.
Season Five of Bridgerton is set to premiere in 2027. Season Six of the show has also been greenlit.
