After becoming one of the highest-grossing films of all time,
Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings onto streaming today. It’s now available to rent from VOD platforms including Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home for $24.99 or buy for $29.99.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Brand New Day finds our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man navigating a world where the memory of Peter Parker’s existence has been erased. He also crosses paths with some old friends and frenemies, including Jon Bernthal’s Punisher and Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk, while contending with a mysterious threat that can inhabit nearly anyone’s mind.
Spider-Man: Brand New Dayfeatured some big needle drops, including an extended opening sequence featuring the TV on the Radio classic “Wolf Like Me.” The use of the track even took the band’s singer, Tunde Adebimpe, by surprise; the band signed off on its use but didn’t know how prominently it would be featured, as he previously explained to Rolling Stone: “[It’s] also a great feeling to know that for whatever reason the song sticks with people and means something.”
As for when Brand New Day will land on subscription streaming services, no formal date has been announced. Like all Spidey flicks, it’s distributed by Sony, which has its own agreements with the various streaming services. The studio inked a “Pay 1” deal with Netflix, which will be Brand New Day‘s first streaming home. The film is expected to land on Disney+ sometime next year.
The film is also getting a Blu-ray and DVD release, including a 4K Blu-ray Steelbook with variant cover art (the physical media release is a good option if you’d prefer not to figure out Sony’s complex streaming arrangements). The physical release date is set for Dec. 15.
