Sienna Spiro has won the 2026 VMA for Best New Artist. Spiro joins notable past recipients like Nirvana, Eminem, Olivia Rodrigo, and Billie Eilish. Earlier in the night, Spiro hit the VMAs stage for the very first time when she performed “Great Expectation.”
“I didn’t think this would happen, so I just have to say thank you so much,” Spiro said in her short and sweet speech. “Thank you to the fans and the people that voted for me. I love you. I can’t believe this.” She thanked her team at Capitol Records, the women in her crew, her mother, and her sister. For a moment, it seemed like she was ready to rattle off more names, but she decided to wrap it up with a breathless, “I don’t even know.”
Just like most of her fellow nominees, Spiro spent years making music and sharing it on TikTok before popping off recently. Spiro’s jazzy sound — inspired by greats like Frank Sinatra, Nina Simon, and Etta James — continues to set the British singer apart. Last fall, Spiro had her breakthrough moment with “Die on the Hill,” reaching new fans across the pond just in time for the 2026 release of her debut album Visitor.
This year, the Best New Artist category was filled with rising stars, including Bella Kay, Cortis, Magnus Ferrell, Malcolm Todd, Myles Smith, and Stella Lefty. Last year’s Best New Artist winner Alex Warren presented Spiro with her VMA.
