It was the first hurricane in U.S. history to result in at least $1 billion in losses (1965 USD). Another notable storm was Hurricane Carol, which meandered in the eastern Atlantic for over two weeks from mid-September to early October, though its impact on land was minimal. Tropical Storm Debbie developed in late September in the northwestern Caribbean, moving slowly before dissipating just offshore of Louisiana, causing only minor impact.
