The English Wikipedia reached a significant milestone, surpassing seven million articles on May 28, 2025. The sheer volume of its content is impressive, with the compressed texts of its articles amounting to 20 gigabytes in November 2022. The one-billionth edit on the English Wikipedia was made on January 13, 2021, by Ser Amantio di Nicolao (Steven Pruitt), who, as of January 2026, remains the user with the highest number of edits, exceeding 6.7 million. Currently, the English Wikipedia hosts 7,231,814 articles and 975,368 files, representing 10.6% of all articles across all Wikipedias, though this is a decrease from over 50% in 2003.
The community of editors is substantial, with over 54,252,548 registered accounts, including 814 administrators. More than 1,100,000 volunteer editors have made over 10 edits, and over 30,000 perform more than 5 edits per month. A dedicated group of over 3,000 editors makes more than 100 edits monthly.
