Early Locations and Growth Pains
WPTV-TV first began broadcasting on August 22, 1954, under the call sign WJNO-TV. Its initial home was a former greenhouse located in Palm Beach, a rather unconventional start for what would become a major television station. This original location served as the base for the area's first VHF television station. In 1956, following a sale to John Phipps, the station became WPTV and continued its operations.
