Inspired by the work of Sir Hiram Maxim, Parmelee developed an automatic fire sprinkler system. His invention used solder to seal water pipes, which would melt in the event of a fire, allowing water to flow and extinguish the flames. This innovative approach was a significant improvement over existing fire suppression methods, which were often manual and less effective.
The Impact of Parmelee's Invention
Parmelee's automatic fire sprinkler system was first installed in his piano factory, making it the first building in the United States to be equipped with such a system.
