Tom Cruise is set to return to the world of high-speed racing, officially announcing a sequel to his 1990 classic, Days of Thunder. The actor confirmed

the project in a video shared on social media, revealing that he will be joined by Anne Hathaway for the upcoming installment. The announcement, which featured the two stars standing alongside a race car branded with the film's title and a 2028 release date, has set a clear timeline for the highly anticipated follow-up. The original 1990 film, directed by Tony Scott, centered on the character Cole Trickle, a talented driver who makes the leap from open-wheel racing to the competitive world of NASCAR. The story explored his professional rivalries and personal challenges, including a career-threatening accident. While the original featured a notable ensemble cast including Nicole Kidman and Robert Duvall, the sequel marks a new chapter for the franchise, with production details now beginning to emerge.

Production and Creative Team Details

The sequel is currently in development with Jonathan Levine attached to direct. Levine, known for his work on projects such as Warm Bodies, 50/50, and Long Shot, will lead the production, while Will Staples has been tapped to write the screenplay. The project is being designed with a focus on the large-format experience, with plans to film specifically for IMAX screens to capture the intensity of the NASCAR racing sequences.
