What is the story about?
AR Rahman's recent interview with the BBC where he expressed his concerns about the limited opportunities he receives in Bollywood due to ‘bias within
the Hindi film industry' is gaining traction. Now, actress-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut is responding to the Oscar-winning musician. On social media, she disclosed that Rahman declined to meet her regarding Emergency. She mentioned that he was not interested in participating in a "propaganda film." Furthermore, the actress also criticized Masaba Gupta for a "disgraceful" incident during Ram Janmbhoomi last year when the designer informed her stylist that she did not want Kangana to wear her label's saree.
Kangana Ranaut reveals AR Rahman rejected her directorial venture Emergency
In an Instagram Story, Kangana shared a detailed message to the composer, starting with, "Dear AR Rahman ji, I encounter significant bias and favoritism in the film industry due to my support for a saffron party, yet I must admit I have never met anyone as biased and resentful as you. I was eager to present my directorial project Emergency to you, but you even refused to meet with me. I was informed that you did not wish to be involved in a propaganda film. Ironically, Emergency was praised as a masterpiece by critics, and even leaders from opposition parties sent me letters commending the film for its (sic) fair and empathetic perspective, but your hatred blinds you. I pity you #emergency."
She went on to recount an experience with designer Masaba Gupta, "@arrahman ji everyone has their own struggles, setting aside films, the prominent designers who implored me to showcase their jewelry and clothing in free fund campaigns because they claimed to be my closest friends later refused to provide my stylist with outfits. They ceased communication with me and stopped promoting me, but one incident I will always remember is when I wore a @masabagupta saree for Ram Janmbhoomi, and she told the stylist that I couldn't attend Ram Janmbhoomi in her saree. I had already departed from Lucknow for Ayodhya and changing was not an option. I felt so belittled and humiliated that I quietly wept in my car; later, like other designers, she instructed the stylist not to mention her or her brand. Today, AR Rahman ji is shedding crocodile tears, but what about their own hatred and biases?"
Kangana also remarked, "I never performed at my own sister's wedding, but 2016 was also the year I performed at @masabagupta's wedding." She also shared a nostalgic photo of herself with Masaba on her Stories.
