About Nayak
Nayak: The Real Hero, featuring Anil Kapoor in the leading role, premiered in 2001. It also starred Rani Mukerji, Amrish Puri, and Paresh Rawal. Directed by S Shankar, the film is a remake of his own Tamil blockbuster Mudhalvan.
The narrative centers on Shivaji Rao Gaekwad (portrayed by Anil), a television journalist who confronts the corrupt Chief Minister (Puri) during a live broadcast. The CM challenges him to assume his role for a single day. Shivaji agrees and, within just 24 hours, uncovers corruption, initiates reforms, and gains the public's backing. This ultimately leads to him becoming the Chief Minister for real.
