What is the story about?
Dhurandhar: On January 9, 2026, the Gujarat High Court dismissed a petition that contested allegedly offensive dialogue directed at the Baloch community
inDhurandhar. The petition was brought forth by two individuals from the Baloch community, who argued that a line delivered by Sanjay Dutt's character portrayed their community in a negative light. However, the court concluded the matter after the filmmakers informed the bench that the disputed dialogue had already been muted in the film, resulting in 'no grievance' for the court to address.
Court Proceedings And Petitioners' Grievance
The petition was submitted by Yasin Allarakha Baloch and Ayub Balekhan Baloch, both of whom are part of the Baloch community. They claimed that Dhurandhar included a line that belittled their community and constituted hate speech. They contended that the film's dialogue portrayed Baloch individuals as untrustworthy, which they found offensive and damaging to their community’s dignity.
The petitioners requested the Gujarat High Court to direct the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and the film's producers to eliminate or permanently mute the objectionable material from all versions and platforms. They also called for a new review of the film's certification and a prohibition on any further airing or showing of the contentious dialogue.
During previous hearings, the court had asked the petitioners to provide evidence of how the dialogue harmed them, noting that the film was set outside of India and questioning the basis of their complaint.
Filmmakers' Response And Court's Decision
In the most recent hearing, the filmmakers, who were represented in court, indicated that the problematic words had already been muted in the final version of the movie. This voluntary action effectively resolved the petitioners' primary concern, leading the Gujarat High Court to classify the writ petition as 'infructuous' and dismiss it without further instructions. The petitioners did not contest the filmmakers' assertion regarding the muting of the dialogue.
