Gulshan Devaiah has demonstrated his adaptability across various roles. The actor from Kantara: Chapter 1 and Guns & Gulaabs asserts that connections in
the film industry do not necessarily lead to job offers. Even though he has missed out on several prominent projects, he remains undeterred, opting to view these experiences as integral to his artistic path.
The Start of a Creative Partnership with Vasan Bala
Although Peddlers has yet to be released, it introduced Gulshan to one of his closest friends, director Vasan Bala. The pair has worked together on multiple projects, such as Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota and Monica O My Darling, where Gulshan contributed his voice. However, viewers noticed his absence in Jigra. In an exclusive conversation with News18 Showsha, Gulshan disclosed that he was initially considered for a role in Jigra, but a scheduling issue hindered his involvement.
“Vasan made his debut film Peddlers with me, and then we collaborated on Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota. My voice appears in Monica O My Darling. He wanted me to participate in Jigra as well, but I was unavailable. It was either a voice role or a minor character,” Gulshan explained.
Even if he hadn’t been invited for a cameo in Jigra, Gulshan mentioned he would have been completely fine with it, as he doesn’t anticipate his friends to cast him in their films.
“Vasan is a very close friend. I could reach out to him if I knew he was working on a script and express my desire to be involved, but I don’t. I prefer not to do that. Sometimes, they offer you a role willingly, and other times, they don’t,” he clarified.
Missing Opportunities with Anurag Kashyap
Gulshan also reminisced about a similar situation with director Anurag Kashyap, who gave him his start in That Girl in Yellow Boots. Anurag had proposed two major projects, but circumstances kept Gulshan from participating.
“After That Girl In Yellow Boots, Anurag reached out to me for collaboration a few times. I was meant to take part in Sacred Games, specifically in the episodes directed by Vikram (Vikramaditya Motwane). I was also offered a role in Yudh, but I wasn’t interested,” he shared.

Prioritizing Integrity in Role Selection
Gulshan cited another instance involving director Harshvardhan Kulkarni, with whom he has a long-standing professional relationship.
“Harshvardhan Kulkarni directed Hunterrr, where I played the lead. In Badhaai Do, I was romantically involved with his lead actor. However, I’ve never requested roles from these directors. If a role is offered to me, it is what it is. I think that’s perfectly fine,” he remarked.
Gulshan concluded by highlighting the significance of collaborating with new partners, as it fosters creative development and introduces fresh viewpoints.
“At times, it’s crucial to work with new individuals because they can steer you in a different direction. The same could apply to them as well. They should have the opportunity to cast the actors they envision for a role. And sometimes, perhaps I’m not the ideal fit for it,” he stated.
