Farah Khan has been sorely missed in her role as a director. With her unique approach to filmmaking, Farah infuses a delightful essence into mainstream
cinema. It seems she may finally be preparing to step back into the director's role. Although she has maintained her presence through engaging YouTube vlogs, fans have eagerly anticipated her signature cinematic extravaganza to return. Renowned for creating crowd-pleasing hits like Main Hoon Na, Om Shanti Om, and the viral sensation Tees Maar Khan, Farah recently dropped a significant clue about her upcoming directorial project during a candid discussion on her vlog - and it involves her close friend Shah Rukh Khan!
Will Farah Khan and Shah Rukh Khan reunite?
In her most recent YouTube episode, Farah paid a visit to actor Nakuul Mehta’s residence in Mumbai, where they reminisced about the past. Nakuul expressed how much he missed the type of films that Farah is known for. In response, Farah remarked, “I will make a film soon! My kids will be off to college, and then I’ll get started! There’s a whole petition online called wapas aao Farah Khan. So I believe it’s time; I think I’ll begin at the end of this year."
(I will create a film shortly! My children are heading to college, so I’ll start after that. There’s a petition urging me to return to directing saying 'Come back Farah Khan'.)
Farah also humorously acknowledged her rising fame as a YouTuber, stating that she has no plans to leave the platform anytime soon since it helps cover her children's expenses. However, when Nakuul teasingly inquired if YouTube would also fund her next film, Farah made her stance clear. She responded, “If I do (direct a film), it will be with Shah Rukh (Khan)! Otherwise, I’ll stick to YouTube.”
SRK and Farah's collaborations
This remark has naturally sparked speculation about Shah Rukh Khan potentially collaborating with Farah Khan once more. The pair shares a long and fruitful partnership. Farah made her directorial debut with Main Hoon Na (2004), featuring SRK, which became a tremendous success. They followed it up with Om Shanti Om (2007), one of Shah Rukh Khan’s most memorable films, celebrated for its hit music, innovative storytelling, and grand presentation (not to mention SRK's abs!). Both films are highly rewatchable.
Farah also collaborated with SRK for Happy New Year (2014), a film that, despite receiving mixed reviews, did well at the box office. Their partnerships have consistently blended spectacle, humor, music, and emotion - qualities for which Farah is well-regarded.
While there is no official announcement yet, Farah Khan’s remarks clearly indicate that Shah Rukh Khan is her preferred choice for her comeback film. If everything falls into place, fans may soon witness the revival of one of Bollywood’s most successful actor-director duos on the big screen.
