Actors Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna have officially engaged legal authorities following a wave of intense online backlash triggered by their
recent appearance on the celebrity chat show Koffee with Karan Season 9. The couple’s manager, P. Nishant Kumar, has filed a formal complaint with the Hyderabad Cyber Crime department, alleging that the actors have been subjected to targeted harassment, the circulation of fabricated content, and identity impersonation.
The controversy stems from a segment of the show where the pair discussed their relationship, specifically a conversation regarding marriage. The exchange, which saw the actors share differing perspectives on the timing of such a commitment, prompted significant debate among viewers. While some social media users criticized the interaction and labeled the actor a red flag, the situation escalated into the widespread sharing of manipulated screenshots and misleading narratives, prompting the legal intervention.
Clarifying the Scope of Legal Action
In a statement issued by their team, the actors clarified that the legal complaint is strictly focused on addressing demonstrably false information and unlawful online activity rather than suppressing public opinion. The team emphasized that they remain open to genuine criticism and respect freedom of speech, but they are seeking accountability for the malicious spread of misinformation. Supporting evidence, including specific links and documentation of the alleged impersonation, has been submitted to the authorities for further investigation.
Response to Public Scrutiny
Prior to the filing of the complaint, both actors addressed the social media discourse directly on October 26. Rashmika Mandanna publicly affirmed her commitment to the relationship, stating she would choose her partner a thousand times over. Vijay Deverakonda also defended their bond, describing their potential future as a happy one and advising those dissatisfied with their personal choices to refrain from interjecting with unsolicited opinions. As the matter is now under review by cybercrime officials, the couple has urged the public to refrain from sharing unverified claims.
