Jiiva's the newest movie, Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimaiyil directed by Nithish Sahadev premiered in cinemas on January 15. Directed by Nithish in his Tamil
film debut following the success of the Malayalam film Falimy, TTT is a relatable drama that thrives on audience connection and word-of-mouth promotion. The film had a strong opening at the box office, surpassing the one-crore milestone on its first day, reflecting the audience's enthusiasm for Jiiva’s return to a prominent role. However, alongside the praise, social media users began to criticize the line “Conditions Follow Pannungada,” which is presented in a light-hearted and humorous manner in the film. The criticism arises not from the dialogue itself, but from its link to a recent real-life tragedy that resonated deeply with the public.
Why Is Jiiva's 'Conditions Follow Pannunga Da' Line In TTT Facing Criticism - Explained
The phrase drew attention after the heartbreaking event in Karur, which claimed 40 lives. This incident took place during a rally organized by actor-turned-politician Vijay, who is the founder and president of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). The tragedy occurred in Velusamypuram on the Karur–Erode highway when a large crowd gathered to see Vijay’s convoy. The situation quickly escalated, leading to dire consequences. In the aftermath, images from hospitals in Karur depicted mourning families. During this period, Tamil Nadu’s Minister for School Education, Anbil Mahesh, was seen addressing the situation and was heard saying, “Padichu padichu sonna conditions follow pannunga da,” while encouraging people to follow safety protocols. Given the circumstances, the phrase became closely associated with the tragedy.
Consequently, numerous social media users felt that incorporating the same phrase in a comedic context within Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimaiyil was inappropriate. Many accused the filmmakers of downplaying a phrase linked to sorrow and loss, despite it becoming a popular phrase online.
