Bollywood director Karan Johar, who recently received a National Award for Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, spoke openly about the isolation that can sometimes
come with achievement. Karan discussed his single status, his battles with loneliness, and the emotional aftermath of his National Award victory. The director, producer, and talk show host, who is also a devoted single parent to twins Yash and Roohi, shared that although he has a robust network of friends and family, there are times he longs for a romantic companion to celebrate his successes and milestones with.
Karan Johar feels lonely!
In a touching conversation with tennis champion Sania Mirza on her podcast Serving It Up with Sania, Karan expressed, “You often feel the most isolated during your successes rather than your failures. In your failures, you have your family, friends, parents, and children. I have two cousin sisters I’m very close to, along with my best friends. But during your successes, what do you do? I recall receiving the call that I was awarded a National Award. After hanging up, I spent a minute thinking, ‘What should I do tonight? Whose home should I visit? Whose hand can I hold? I just needed a little acknowledgment to feel joyful.’”

KJo still searching for love reminiscent of SRK films
The Kuch Kuch Hota Hai director mentioned that the sentiment struck him even more profoundly when he attended the awards ceremony in Delhi. “When I arrived at the awards, they inquired about my plus one, and I had no one to bring. Everyone else was accompanied by their partners, and my mother was unable to travel, while my children were too young. It really hits hard. I do experience loneliness, and on many evenings when I dine alone, I avoid the dining table. I prefer to eat in my room to lessen the feeling of solitude. But they say never say never, and when the time comes, I’ll be ready with my arms wide open like Shah Rukh Khan.”
While Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani earned him critical praise and the esteemed National Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment, it also served as a reminder to Karan that even victories can feel unfulfilled without someone special to share them with.
