About Haq
Haq, crafted by Reshu Nath and helmed by Suparn Verma, is a courtroom drama inspired by the pivotal Shah Bano Begum vs. Mohd. Ahmed Khan Supreme Court case. Set in the 1980s in India, the film narrates the tale of Shazia Bano (Yami Gautam), whose life is turned upside down when her husband Abbas (Emraan Hashmi) takes another wife. Although Abbas initially agrees to provide financial support for their children, he later retracts his commitment. Shazia bravely stands up in court, confronting societal pressures and personal challenges. When Abbas resorts to triple talaq to silence her, Shazia’s quest for justice becomes the film's core, delving into the intricate interplay of faith, tradition, and constitutional rights.
With Yami’s captivating performance and a socially pertinent storyline, Haq has become one of the most discussed releases on Netflix this year.
