Actors Rashmika Mandanna and Vijay Deverakonda have initiated formal legal action against a wave of online harassment and misinformation surrounding their
marriage. The couple’s management team recently filed a complaint with cybercrime authorities, alleging that various social media platforms have been used to circulate fabricated claims, manipulated screenshots, and AI-generated content intended to damage their reputations. This move follows intense public scrutiny and speculative commentary that emerged after the pair appeared on the latest season of Koffee With Karan.
The controversy gained momentum after the couple discussed their relationship and marriage, which took place in Udaipur in February 2026. Following the broadcast, social media users began debating the details of their proposal and personal dynamics. The situation escalated when unverified reports, including a claim from a self-identified crew member alleging that the show’s production was halted due to a personal dispute, began circulating widely. Additionally, the couple’s team highlighted instances of misleading posts regarding Vijay’s social media activity and offensive commentary directed at both actors, as well as comparisons to other public figures.
Addressing Misinformation and Online Bullying
In response to the backlash, both actors have publicly defended their personal lives. Vijay Deverakonda addressed the criticism directed at his family, explicitly condemning the use of feminist rhetoric to justify what he described as bullying. He emphasized that true feminism advocates for the freedom to make personal life choices, a stance he maintains he has exercised. Rashmika Mandanna also spoke out, expressing frustration over the public’s tendency to prioritize misleading online narratives over their own firsthand accounts of their relationship. The couple’s team, known as Team R, clarified that the complaint is not an attempt to stifle free speech or genuine criticism, but rather a necessary step to hold individuals accountable for presenting materially misleading information as fact.
Current Status of the Cybercrime Investigation
As of October 26, the complaint and supporting evidence have been submitted to cyber police for review. Authorities have confirmed that they are currently examining the provided materials to determine if any unlawful activity has occurred. At this stage, no formal case has been registered, as the petition is considered non-cognizable under current regulations. The investigation will focus on distinguishing between protected personal opinion and content that crosses the threshold into harassment or defamation. For now, the couple’s representatives continue to urge the public to exercise discernment when consuming unverified information presented on social media platforms.
