At the Venice Film Festival, The Smashing Machine was met with a 15-minute standing ovation. Witnessing the audience's response, Dwayne became emotional. Speaking to AP prior to the premiere, the actor shared, “I have long desired this. The transformation aspect was something I was truly eager to undertake. I’ve been very lucky to have the career I’ve enjoyed and the films I’ve made, but there was always this inner voice, a small voice, asking what if I could achieve more.”
A24’s The Smashing Machine is directed by Benny Safdie. This biographical sports drama is brought to India by PVR INOX Pictures. Johnson portrays the iconic ’90s fighter Mark Kerr in the film.
