Dharmendra Expressed His Affection to Hema Malini on Sholay Sets
Sholay: The Final Cut was re-released in 4k in Indian theaters this week, celebrating 50 years of the iconic 1975 film. While showcasing the film’s original conclusion, the release also includes a heartfelt tribute to Dharmendra. In a conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Sippy remarked, "He was in high spirits. He had a few drinks. I could tell by the way he navigated the water tank. It was quite frightening for me as well. When I followed him up the water tank, he reassured me that everything was fine and that it was all part of the act. So, I allowed him to take the lead. It was his declaration of love in front of everyone. He was willing to sacrifice for his love, and even Mausiji softened. Since this was his genuine love confession, he poured all his energy into it."
Sippy acknowledged that the performance leaned towards method acting, emphasizing that Dharmendra was profoundly engaged in the moment as it reflected his true feelings for Hema. He added, "What’s unfolding in the film mirrors the current reality. So, it felt wonderful. I also believed it benefited the film because the authentic romance shines through on screen."
Dharmendra's Final Film
