The release of the highly anticipated film Udta Teer, featuring Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan, has been officially postponed. Originally slated
to arrive in cinemas on October 9, the production team has confirmed that the movie will now debut on October 23. This marks the second time the film’s release date has been adjusted, following an initial shift from its original September 11 slot. The decision to delay the project comes as the industry navigates a particularly congested October schedule. The move follows the significant box-office performance of the Ajay Devgn-led Drishyam 3, which recorded an opening day collection exceeding ₹50 crore. By shifting the release, the makers aim to avoid a crowded marketplace and ensure the film receives a more prominent theatrical run.
Strategic Scheduling for a Competitive Market
In an official statement regarding the change, the production team emphasized the importance of securing a cleaner release window. The note highlighted that while the film’s trailer and ongoing promotional efforts have generated positive momentum, moving the date allows the project to maximize its screen presence without competing for space in a saturated environment. The decision is framed as a strategic move to provide the film with a stronger runway for its theatrical debut. The October release calendar remains packed with other notable projects, including the exclusive preview screenings of India’s official Oscar 2027 entry, Gondhal, beginning on October 9. Additionally, the industry is bracing for the mid-month releases of Rajkummar Rao’s Prahaar: The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam and Yami Gautam’s Nayyi Navelli, both scheduled for October 16.
A Return to Unconventional Storytelling
For lead actor Ayushmann Khurrana, Udta Teer represents a return to the unconventional, original storytelling that has defined much of his career. Speaking about the project, Khurrana described the film as a genre-defying, pro-India patriotic comedy. He plays the role of a Pakistani spy who suffers from memory loss, leading to a humorous situation where he forgets his national allegiance and begins supporting India. The film marks the directorial debut of Akash A Kaushik and features an extensive ensemble cast, including Rahul Bose, Ram Kapoor, Suhail Nayyar, Gulshan Grover, Mukul Dev, Raghubir Yadav, Brijendra Kala, Supriya Pilgaonkar, and Smita Tambe. The production is a collaborative effort between Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment, with Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, Guneet Monga Kapoor, and Achin Jain serving as producers.
