One of the prominent actresses in Bollywood, Taapsee Pannu, has recently criticized the public relations culture prevalent in the film sector. Having appeared
in movies such as Dunki, Thappad, Badla, and Pink, Taapsee remarked that the “PR game has reached an entirely new level.” In a recent exclusive conversation, she highlighted the influence of financial resources in shaping public opinion, noting that substantial amounts are frequently squandered on paid endorsements and social media narratives. The actress launched her career in 2010 with the Telugu film Jhummandi Naadam.
Taapsee Pannu addresses paid PR tactics in the industry
During an exclusive discussion with us, Taapsee Pannu shared, "I was preoccupied with my own projects. However, over the past 1.5-2 years, I have intentionally slowed down. I have come to understand that this PR game has escalated significantly. You are either investing in promoting yourself, which is one way of doing PR, or you are spending to undermine someone else. Since when did your achievements rely on the downfall of others? Individuals have begun to fabricate a new image of themselves to maintain relevance. I am not satisfied with merely being part of a successful film; I also need to have a powerful voice, even if it’s not authentically mine. You must cultivate a voice, but that voice you are trying to establish outside of your films does not align with your actual work. This inconsistency is evident. You claim to be beyond your films, yet your work tells a different story."
She discussed the significance of investing in herself and her travels while criticizing the practice of spending money for compliments and favoritism. She stated, "I want to allocate my funds for myself, for my travels, and for my family. I don’t have the resources to plant articles about myself or to pay Rs 50,000 to a social media account just to have them write flattering things about me.
(Translation: I want to spend my money on myself, on my travels, and on my family. I don’t have money to plant my own articles or pay Rs 50,000 to a social media account just so they write big things about me)."
