After years of delays and controversy, Diljit Dosanjh's much-anticipated film, originally titled "Punjab 95," was finally released on an OTT platform under
the new title "Sutlej" on July 3. However, the film has now been taken down from the platform in India. This development was officially confirmed by the streaming service through a statement shared on Instagram, where they expressed gratitude to viewers for the overwhelming response the film received upon its release.
The platform emphasized its commitment to the film, stating, "At G5, we stand firmly by Sutlej and the creative vision behind it. We believe powerful storytelling has the ability to inspire and leave a lasting impact." They also announced that the film would not be available in India until further notice, citing current developments as the reason for the removal. The statement reassured audiences that they are exploring every appropriate avenue to bring the film back at the earliest opportunity.
In response to the film's removal, Diljit Dosanjh reacted strongly on Instagram, sharing a powerful scene from the film and addressing the challenges faced by human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, on whom the film is based. The film's journey has been fraught with difficulties; it was submitted to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) in 2022 but remained stuck in the certification process for nearly three years before its eventual release as "Sutlej."
The film features a notable cast, including Diljit Dosanjh in the lead role, alongside Kamblejit Singh, Arjun Rampal, Suvinder Vicky, and Geetika Vidya Ohlyan. As fans continue to demand the film's return, all eyes are now on the next steps and whether "Sutlej" will find its way back to audiences in the near future.
