All legal obstacles forKarthi’s first release of the year film Vaa Vaathiyaar have been resolved, enabling its release in theaters on January 14 as planned.
The film's launch had been in jeopardy due to financial disagreements, which have now been settled following the court's ruling. With all payments cleared, the temporary injunction on the film has been lifted, bringing relief to the producers and excitement to fans eagerly anticipating another Pongal celebration. Prior to the release, producer KE Gnanavel Raja addressed concerns regarding his financial situation during the film's press conference. He acknowledged Suriya for supporting him through his challenging times.
What Was the Vaa Vaathiyaar Debt Controversy?
During the promotional event, KE Gnanavel Raja stated, “Some of our earlier projects did not meet expectations, leading to a wave of negativity suggesting we had exited film production. Let me clarify—we are still very much involved. I am a producer with no outstanding debts in the industry today. Those who spread exaggerated claims are more harmful than those who simply state I am in debt.” The controversy stemmed from a loan taken from Arjunlal Sunderdas, which later became the subject of legal proceedings. The court-appointed administrator managing Arjunlal’s assets filed a plea in the Madras High Court sought to recover Rs 21.78 crore, including interest, from Gnanavel Raja. The petition also asked the court to prevent the release of Vaa Vathiyaar until the debts were settled. Ultimately, the entire outstanding amount was resolved, bringing the issue to a close.
Producer KE Gnanavel Raja Thanks Suriya for His Support
KE Gnanavel Raja also expressed his appreciation for Suriya, stating, “Suriya anna quietly supported me and showed great concern. He provided me with the strength to navigate the difficult situations I faced.” Regarding the postponement of the film’s release, he remarked, “We intended to release it in December last year, but due to various factors, we were unable to. Nevertheless, this date is ideal. I sincerely regret that Jana Nayagan could not participate in this celebration, but missing this release would have impacted our obligations with other collaborators.”
KE Gnanavel Raja had previously produced Suriya’s Rs 300 crore-budget film Kanguva, which did not succeed at the box office.
Directed by Nalan Kumarasamy, Vaa Vathiyaar also features Krithi Shetty, Raj Kiran, and Sathyaraj in significant roles.
