Despite competing with Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, and Rashmika Mandanna’s Cocktail 2, which opened with over Rs 13 crore, Main Vaapas Aaunga continued to perform steadily at the box office. The film featuring Naseeruddin Shah concluded its first week with a total of Rs 12.25 crore. The second weekend is anticipated to finish with a collection exceeding Rs 20 crore.

Main Vaapas Aaunga experienced steady growth starting Thursday, earning Rs 2.20 crore. The release of Cocktail 2 impacted Friday's collection negatively. However, the film rebounded on Saturday, earning Rs 4.35 crore on its eighth day. According to Sacnilk, the film saw a 55 per cent growth from its Friday earnings on Saturday. As of 11 AM on Sunday, the Imtiaz Ali film has garnered Rs 19.07 crore.
According to BookMyShow, most screenings of Main Vaapas Aaunga, including late evening shows, are fully booked. Imtiaz has taken a proactive approach to promote the film post-release, visiting various theatres not only in Mumbai but also in other cities to engage with audiences and gauge their reactions to the film.
What is the story of Main Vaapas Aaunga
Main Vaapas Aaunga tells the story of a 95-year-old Sikh man named Ishar, who was affectionately known as Keenu in his youth. During the pre-Partition era, he fell in love with a Muslim woman named Afsana, or Jiya. The Partition disrupts his vow to never leave her, forcing Keenu to relocate to Amritsar. After the border between India and Pakistan is established, Keenu returns to Sargodha to bring Jiya to the other side with him. The narrative of Main Vaapas Aaunga unfolds through Ishar’s memories of Jiya and his perspective on the Partition. His grandson, Nirvair, serves as the link between his past and present.
