What is the story about?
Kristen Stewart has always been outspoken. The Twilight actress' recent statements suggest a looming trend - a significant departure of Hollywood figures
from the United States. The Oscar-nominated actress has disclosed that she might not remain in the US, pointing to a progressively restrictive atmosphere that hampers her ability to work without constraints. Stewart’s comments emerge as numerous high-profile stars are opting to leave America, with many settling in Europe. Her latest position contributes to a growing roster of artists reassessing their prospects in the US and their ties to Hollywood.
Kristen Stewart is unlikely to remain in the US
In a recent discussion with The Times of London, Stewart confessed that she will “probably not” continue living in the United States as Donald Trump continues to influence the political landscape. “Reality is completely unraveling under Trump,” she remarked, urging individuals to “forge the reality we wish to inhabit.”
When directly questioned about her plans to stay in the US, the Spencer actress was straightforward. “Probably not. I can’t work freely there,” Stewart stated. Nevertheless, she emphasized that she does not intend to completely forsake American cinema. Instead, she expressed a wish to create films in Europe and subsequently present them to US audiences, stating she would like to "shove them down the throat of the American people."
Stewart’s unease with Trump is not a recent development. In 2012, the former president frequently commented on her private life on X (formerly Twitter), urging her then-partner Robert Pattinson to end their relationship. Kristen later described Trump as 'obsessed' in a Variety interview.
Stars who have departed Hollywood
Stewart now finds herself among a rising number of celebrities who have exited or are planning to exit the US during Trump’s second term. Ellen DeGeneres and her spouse Portia de Rossi have made a permanent move to the UK, while Rosie O’Donnell has also left America. Director James Cameron, who relocated to New Zealand for his Avatar series, has indicated that he is unlikely to return to the US, stating he is not there for the scenery, but for his mental well-being.
Other prominent individuals have made similar decisions. Game of Thrones actor Sophie Turner returned to the UK, partly influenced by the political climate. George and Amal Clooney have confirmed their departure from the US after acquiring French citizenship. Meanwhile, House of Cards star Robin Wright relocated to the UK, labeling the situation in America as a “s—t show.”
With these stars opting to leave the US, we may soon witness more Hollywood figures abandoning their fame in America to seek tranquility and stability elsewhere.
