What is the story about?
Nakuul Mehta’s newest series, Space Gen - Chandrayaan, debuted on January 23 on JioHotstar, showcasing scientists from India’s space program as they embark
on an ambitious lunar expedition. The actor has participated in numerous prominent TV, reality, and OTT series throughout his career, yet Mehta can still remember a valuable lesson he learned early in his journey. In a conversation with us, he reflected on the moment he declined a dance reality show, which ultimately led to his dismissal from his hosting role. Mehta expressed that he gained significant insight regarding the realities of the industry from that experience.
Nakuul Mehta discusses how saying no imparted a crucial lesson
In an interview with Zoom, the Do You Wanna Partner actor shared a life lesson that has remained with him. He recounted an event from ten years ago, shortly after the show Pyaar Ka Dard Hai Meetha Meetha Pyaara Pyaara, when he was still quite new.
He stated, “I believe that courage is often recognized in hindsight, and you label it as courage now. At that time, I was unaware of any other approach. I was hosting the most significant reality show available. I enjoyed myself immensely and gained a wealth of knowledge on that grand platform.”
Mehta was the host of India’s Got Talent Season 6 alongside judges Karan Johar, Malaika Arora, and Kirron Kher. The network wanted him to participate in another dance reality show as well. However, the actor declined, as he preferred not to juggle acting with a reality show simultaneously. He honestly conveyed that he wasn’t truly invested in it.
Experience of being let go from hosting role
He continued, “Naturally, that decision was not well received, and I received a termination notice with just two episodes remaining, which was quite humiliating at that moment. I believed I was performing adequately. My choice to participate in your show shouldn’t hinge on the fact that I’m not taking on your subsequent project. Now, in retrospect, [I realize] this is the cost of doing business. I shouldn’t have allowed my emotions to dictate my decisions.”
Mehta transformed this experience into motivation for pursuing new opportunities. After reading Ronnie Screwvala's book Dare to Dream, the actor decided to forge his own path and went on to produce and star in the web series, I Don't Watch TV. He subsequently appeared in other projects such as Ishqbaaaz, Bade Achhe Lagte Hain 2, and Never Kiss Your Best Friend.
