Rani Mukerji describes receiving her first National Award with Shah Rukh Khan as 'particularly meaningful'
Rani Mukerji reflected on a touching moment with Shah Rukh Khan that gained widespread attention, where they were seen helping each other with their medals. Looking back, Rani characterized it as a deeply personal experience that symbolizes their shared journey over the years.
“I believe all students present today can relate,” Rani remarked, drawing a connection between lifelong friendships and their relationship. “When you’ve traveled alongside your friends from a young age—through school, college, and supporting each other in life—achieving something together on a platform like that becomes incredibly meaningful. You’re celebrating with someone who has been part of your journey from the start.”
Speaking warmly of Shah Rukh Khan, Rani mentioned that she has always admired him since the onset of her career. “I’ve absorbed so much from him—both as a professional and as a person. Winning that day felt even more significant because he has been in the industry for 35 years, while I’ve been here for 30. Regardless of National Awards, our desire to excel in our films has never wavered.”
Rani also shared her perspective on life and work, stating, “I’m represented by the horse in the Chinese zodiac. I believe in keeping my focus—never looking to the left or right. I always look forward and concentrate on what lies ahead.”
Rani Mukerji on her friendships with Karan Johar, Salman Khan, and Kajol since Kuch Kuch Hota Hai
When asked about her lasting friendships with Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Kajol, and Karan Johar since Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Rani conveyed a heartfelt message to Gen Z. “These are the friendships formed when you’re ‘nobodies’—not in a negative sense, but when the world hasn’t yet recognized your potential. These friends appreciate you for who you are, not for what you might become.”
The Hum Tum actress emphasized that true friendships are devoid of expectations. She added, "For me, these friendships were established at a time when I was unknown, and they genuinely connected with me for who I was. In friendship, there should be no expectation of reciprocity. It’s a flawed mindset to think, ‘I did this for you, so you owe me.’ Friendship is a mutual exchange; the more love you give, the more you receive. It’s about the bond of love, trust, and never allowing that trust to diminish. I’ve maintained this principle throughout my life, where my friendships were not formed with ulterior motives. They have endured for years because whether we worked together or not, it was a bond built on the joy of each other’s company, the secrets we shared, and the sincerity with which we discussed our lives—offering help when needed."
Rani concluded by underscoring the significance of trust, honesty, and emotional support. She shared, "There may be times when we’re not at our best, or when family issues arise. These moments can affect us. During such times, being honest about our family situations is crucial. My friendships have developed over the years without any expectation of return, only love, kindness, and trust."
