The Heritage of Dharma Productions
Established by Yash Johar in 1976, Dharma Productions emerged as one of Bollywood’s most significant studios. Following Yash Johar’s demise in 2004, Karan Johar assumed leadership, continuing his father's cinematic heritage.
The studio’s inaugural production, Raj Khosla’s Dostana (1980), featuring Amitabh Bachchan, Shatrughan Sinha, and Zeenat Aman, became the top-grossing film of that year. It was succeeded by Duniya (1984) and Muqaddar Ka Faisla. The 1990 film Agneepath, starring Amitabh Bachchan, later gained cult status and earned Bachchan the National Film Award for Best Actor.
In subsequent years, Dharma produced numerous hits such as Gumrah, Duplicate, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Student of the Year, Brahmāstra, and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, partnering with leading stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, and Sidharth Malhotra.
