Another Spider-Man film featuring Tobey Maguire? It appears that this is a vision that Mattson Tomlin, co-writer of The Batman: Part II, is subtly cultivating.
The screenwriter recently reignited enthusiasm among fans by expressing his desire to craft a new chapter starring Maguire’s Peter Parker, many years after Sam Raimi’s cherished trilogy transformed the superhero genre in the 2000s. According to reports, the concept first emerged in July when a fan on X (previously Twitter) inquired if Tomlin would ever contemplate writing a Spider-Man film and what his interpretation of the character might entail. Tomlin’s reply instantly sent nostalgic fans into a flurry of speculation. “To be honest, my primary interest at this moment would be to create a Spider-Man 4 where Tobey’s Spider-Man is balancing the roles of a husband and a father,” he stated. “The idea of Spider-Man as a parent is what draws me in, especially considering the last eight films.” That single tweet sparked the hopes of numerous fans who remain devoted to Raimi’s version - the one that brought Maguire’s sincere, heartfelt Peter Parker to life. Then, over the weekend, another fan followed up, asking if there had been “any progress” on the potential project. Tomlin’s response was intriguingly ambiguous yet hopeful. Spidey’s Future, Across the Multiverse
As fans await to see if Tomlin’s envisioned project gains momentum, both Sony and Marvel have their own narratives to weave. Tom Holland will soon return as the MCU’s Spider-Man in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is currently set to premiere on July 31, 2026. Details about the film are scarce, but Holland hinted in April 2025 that it would represent a “fresh beginning” for his portrayal of Peter Parker, suggesting a new chapter in his journey following the events of No Way Home.
In the meantime, Tomlin’s other superhero endeavor, The Batman: Part II, is slated for an October 2027 release, with Robert Pattinson reprising his role as Gotham’s brooding guardian.
Thus, while the notion of Spider-Man 4 lingers in the sphere of hopeful tweets and fan aspirations, the possibility isn’t entirely shut — and in the realm of superhero storytelling, that’s all it takes for creativity to soar.
