Indian actor Vir Das is gearing up to make his debut as a director with the forthcoming film Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos from Aamir Khan Productions.
Amidst the excitement, the actor made an appearance on Farah Khan's cooking YouTube channel, where he subtly referred to Happy New Year (2014), directed by Farah Khan and featuring Shah Rukh Khan, as 'unnecessary'. The actor-director later attempted to clarify his statement by drawing a comparison to his own upcoming project. For those who may not know, Vir Das also stars in the lead role of his directorial venture.
Vir Das shares thoughts on Happy New Year
In a relaxed chat involving Farah Khan, Vir Das, and her chef Dilip, Farah remarked, "Are you aware that his (Vir's) film is about to be released… do you know which one it is?" However, he seemed puzzled and had a blank expression. He then remarked, "But you directed Happy New Year." Farah responded, “He tends to pick one word and then says whatever comes to mind." This prompted Vir to say, "Waisa hi pagalpan, bekar type ki picture hai. (It’s a wild and silly film just like Happy New Year)" which led Farah to ask, “Hold on, did you just label my film as bekar?" Vir quickly tried to amend his comment, saying, “My film is completely bekar!" Farah replied, “So you’re implying mine was partially bekar?"
Farah enjoys Happy Patel trailer
During their discussion, Farah took a moment to commend the trailer of his film, likening it to Om Shanti Om. She stated, "It’s my kind of humor. I adore how you’ve incorporated an accent for your character. I’m not sure if it’s for everyone, but I really enjoyed it," Farah expressed. Vir concurred, “Certainly, the stars may not be comparable, but anyone who appreciated Om Shanti Om will enjoy this film." To this, Khan replied, “That implies the whole nation."
