Dhurandhar, helmed by Aditya Dhar and featuring Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, R Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, among others, has surpassed Rs 700 crore in India and keeps setting new records daily. Johar expressed that he was "astounded" by the film. In his reflections on Dhurandhar, Johar opened up, admitting it made him reevaluate his own skills.
Karan Johar names Dhurandhar as one of his top films of 2025
Johar spoke at a recent roundtable hosted by Anupama Chopra. He shared his cinematic experiences of 2025. While he mentioned that his year began with a fondness for Saiyaara featuring Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, it concluded with his admiration for Dhurandhar. Johar also highlighted the Malayalam female superhero film Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, starring Kalyani Priyadarshan, as one of the films he valued. He had previously expressed his thoughts on Dhurandhar shortly after its debut, describing it as exceptional.
Johar remarked, "I was completely taken aback by Dhurandhar; it makes you feel like, wow, my skills are limited. Oh my goodness, just look at the background music. What I appreciated about Dhurandhar was that I didn’t sense the director was overly conscious of himself. It felt like he wasn’t trying to flaunt his abilities, yet he was effortlessly narrating the story."
"I never felt he went overboard or attempted to showcase a stunning frame; it appeared beautifully captured without any self-consciousness. It made me question my capabilities as a filmmaker, and that’s always a positive for me. I view that through an optimistic perspective. So I started the year enjoying Saiyaara and concluded it with a love for Dhurandhar. I adored Lokah as well. I was ecstatic when I watched Lokah," he continued.
