Sivakarthikeyan's Parasakthi made its theatrical debut on January 10, 2026, following a period of uncertainty regarding its approval from the Central Board
of Film Certification (CBFC). After the premiere of Sudha Kongara's directorial work, the film's creative producer Dev Ramnath took to social media to discuss the organized efforts by certain factions to undermine the film’s reception, which led to a controversy. Now, several days later, he has provided further clarification on the matter. In an exclusive interview with Zoom, Dev Ramnath addresses his earlier tweet regarding supporters of Vijay and the forthcoming film Jana Nayagan.
Dev Ramnath Discusses Controversial Jana Nayagan Vs Parasakthi Tweet: Grew Up Enjoying Vijay Sir's Films | Exclusive
Dev Ramnath shared images displaying negative reviews on ticketing sites, along with clips being shared to fabricate a misleading narrative about the film. He asserted that there were even calls urging disruptions during screenings, implying it was a reaction to the delay of Thalapathy Vijay’s Jana Nayagan, which was originally set to release around the same time but was postponed due to legal challenges regarding censorship. Discussing the issues, Dev Ramnath explained that his message was merely a statement, which was misconstrued as a 'warning' by fans.
In clarifying his position on the matter, Dev stated "I have been misquoted and misrepresented by various outlets suggesting that I warned Vijay sir's fans. I have no intention of warning anyone; I want to make it clear that my tweet did not contain any terms like warning or legal action, so that was not my intention." Expressing his frustration over the situation, Dev mentioned he was only disappointed with a specific group of individuals. "This trend (of negativity) will not benefit any film." He also emphasized that he never intended to generalize any remarks. Dev Ramnath further expressed that like everyone else, he is eagerly anticipating Jana Nayagan's release soon.
What Did Parasakthi Actor Dev Ramnath Say About Vijay Fans?
In his tweet, Dev Ramnath stated "Just because we’re launching our film at the same time as yours doesn’t grant you the right to undermine ours. We announced our release date first. Did we attempt to hinder your film? Absolutely not. I was present at the CBFC office daily, in Chennai and Mumbai, to navigate obstacles. We were addressing our censor challenges just like your team was. We received our approval less than 18 hours before the premiere. Negative reviews, utilizing old footage, swaying public opinion, shouting political slogans in theaters, tampering with BMS ratings. This isn’t competition. You did the same to a major film last year. Speaking as a cinema enthusiast, this isn't beneficial for any of us. #Parasakthi is centered around a student movement that we Tamils should take pride in. We will resist this, just as our students did."
Meanwhile, Jana Nayagan, which represents Vijay’s last film before fully committing to politics, was initially scheduled for release on January 9. However, the Court postponed the case regarding its certification until January 20.
