Ashima Chibber on selecting Rani Mukerji for Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway
Ashima Chibber commended Rani Mukerji for her portrayal in Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway. When questioned about her casting choice, Ashima remarked, “Rani is Bengali, and she understands the nuances of Bengali culture. She is skilled in her craft. She is a deeply emotional actress who has portrayed a variety of roles throughout her career.”
“When I envisioned Rani Mukerji, I pictured a fierce tigress with her young ones. I saw that strength in her. If anyone threatens her cubs, they will face dire consequences. I wanted that intensity to be conveyed on screen. As a director, I aim to weave together a commercial narrative with a thought-provoking story that resonates. You won’t find a mother sitting idly during a courtroom scene. She is actively seeking out those who have taken her children. Rani possesses that unique spark that empowered the film. Her technical skills are exceptional. It’s akin to an artist mastering their palette,” the director elaborated.
Ashima Chibber clarified that her goal was not to create a courtroom drama. She stated, “My aim was not to focus on courtroom proceedings but to depict Rani Mukerji as highly proactive in her quest to reclaim her children.”
