In a prior discussion with Zoom, director Aditya Sarpotdar shared, “Thama is a tale of love. While you may have experienced the other films in the Maddock Universe or the Stree World, this one stands apart and is not strictly a horror-comedy. It is a romantic comedy film with some supernatural aspects. The vampire serves as a supernatural element; it narrates a love story between a human and a vampire. The overarching genre is comedy, making it an enjoyable love story within the Maddock Universe. Stree, Bhediya, and Munjya were more focused on horror that instilled fear. This film leans more towards romance. We believed that enough horror comedies had been produced by Maddock, so we aimed to explore different genres while remaining within the same universe.”
He continued, “Thama is broader. Munjya was more localized as it was tied to a folkloric character from the heart of Konkan, where Munjya was known to originate. While Munjya was rooted in folklore, Thama incorporates mythical references. Rather than folklore, it draws inspiration from mythical figures, which will help you see how everything connects.”
