The ensemble cast of this gangster narrative promises a compelling experience with unforgettable characters. O’ Romeo was originally named Arjun Ustara. This film marks a reunion between Shahid and Vishal after their collaborations on Kaminey, Haider, and Rangoon. Interestingly, he was not the initial pick for the part. Prior to Kapoor joining the project and the cast being finalized, the script was offered to one of the current stars of Bollywood.
Kartik Aaryan was approached for O' Romeo before Shahid Kapoor
According to sources, Kartik Aaryan had agreed to his first film with Vishal Bhardwaj. In 2024, there were speculations that the director had extended the offer for the role inspired by Hussain Ustara to the star of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. However, after some preliminary talks and understanding the theme, Kartik graciously declined. Vishal then turned to his preferred actor, Shahid, for the lead role. Reports suggest that Kartik opted out of O’ Romeo because he was hesitant to portray an anti-hero so early in his career, having explored complex characters in Freddy (2022).
Shahid Kapoor on O' Romeo
In a past interview with IANS, Shahid discussed O’ Romeo and remarked, "It features an incredible cast. It includes me, Triptii, Nana sir, and Vikrant Massey, who has a special role. I have genuinely enjoyed collaborating with all these talented individuals, and I am thrilled to work alongside them."
He continued, "This is a gangster film set in the 90s. At its core, it’s a love story, but it’s packed with action and crime. We hope it resonates with a broad audience because we aim for a diverse viewership for the film."
Set against a backdrop of unreciprocated love, O’Romeo delves into themes of desire, sorrow, and the lasting effects of love unfulfilled. The film also features Aruna Irani. Sajid Nadiadwala is the producer. It is set to premiere on February 13.
