What is the story about?
2026 commenced on a remarkable note with the success of Border 2. The follow-up to JP Dutta's Border debuted in January. Featuring Sunny Deol, Diljit Dosanjh,
Varun Dhawan, and Ahan Shetty, the film received mixed reviews but performed well at the box office. Following the release of Border 2's songs and trailer, Varun faced significant trolling on social media. The Bollywood star was criticized for his portrayal and expressions in the war drama. Nearly five months post-release, he has addressed the trolling he experienced online.
Varun Dhawan on trolling for Border 2
In a discussion with Bombay Times, Varun shared his thoughts on the trolling he faced prior to Border 2's launch and how perceptions shifted after its release. The actor reflected on the lessons learned during this period. He expressed that when one dedicates themselves to a sincere film like Border 2, which focuses on the military and the nation, they expect positive outcomes. However, Varun's experience was quite the opposite.
Thus, when the actor encountered negativity, he questioned its occurrence. "Why is this happening with this film? I believe that sometimes, challenges are presented to elevate you later. That’s precisely what transpired for me," Varun remarked. The Bollywood star further emphasized that he allows his work to convey his message.
Varun Dhawan on being criticised for Main Tera Hero
In the same discussion, Varun reminisced about the criticism he faced when Main Tera Hero was released in 2014. He mentioned being labeled a 'loud actor' and receiving various critiques. However, the narrative shifted when the film was re-released in theaters last month. Varun was taken aback by the audience's affection and response. While currently promoting Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, he noted that his earlier film is still being discussed.
Varun Dhawan's work front
On the professional front, Varun is set to appear in Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai. The actor has collaborated with his father David Dhawan for the fourth time. Directed by the esteemed filmmaker, the romantic-comedy also features Pooja Hegde, Mrunal Thakur, Mouni Roy, Maniesh Paul, Rakesh Bedi, Chunky Panday, and others. It is scheduled for release on June 5. The film was initially planned for a May 22 release, coinciding with Ananya Panday and Lakshya's Chand Mera Dil, but the release was postponed by two weeks.
