Thalapathy Vijay’s fans are encountering yet another delay in seeing the actor on the silver screen. The release of the actor's last film Jana Nayagan
is being held up due to issues with the CBFC, meaning fans will have to wait a bit longer for Theri re- to hit theaters. The anticipated re-release of his 2016 hit Theri appears to have been postponed, following requests from the producers of upcoming films to prevent a crowded release schedule. This announcement comes as Vijay’s eagerly awaited film Jana Nayagan is also facing legal and certification challenges, adding to the mounting list of delays affecting the actor. Although Theri’s re-release was expected to attract large audiences, logistical issues with other films have compelled producers to rethink the timing.

Jana Nayagan encounters CBFC issue
Meanwhile, the producers of Jana Nayagan have taken the matter to the Supreme Court, contesting the Madras High Court’s ruling to stay a previous single-judge order that had favored the film. The High Court had instructed the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to withhold the film’s certification, and during the second hearing on January 9, a division bench placed a temporary stay on the order that had directed the CBFC to issue a U/A certificate. The bench also criticized the producers for announcing a release date without obtaining certification, stating that it created a “false sense of urgency.”
Jana Nayagan producer shared video message apologizing to fans
In light of the delay, producer Venkat K. Narayana shared a video message directed at fans, distributors, and exhibitors. He expressed his apologies to those who were looking forward to the film's timely release, emphasizing that the postponement was out of the team's hands. He also highlighted Vijay’s legacy in Tamil cinema, asserting that the actor deserves a proper farewell after years of contributions to the industry.
