2025 marked the rise of Gulshan Devaiah as a national sensation. The actor made his debut in Kannada films with Kantara: Chapter 1 and took on his first
Telugu project, Maa Inti Bangaram, alongside Samantha Ruth Prabhu. The film Kantara: Chapter 1 featuring Rishab Shetty was a significant highlight of the year. Recently, the film garnered attention again when Ranveer Singh reenacted the famous Chavundi Daiva scene during the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. In a special interview with Zoom, Gulshan addressed the social media backlash directed at Ranveer. Devaiah portrayed Kulasekhara in the mythological narrative.
Gulshan Devaiah comments on Ranveer Singh receiving criticism
In a special interview with Zoom, Gulshan remarked, “I’m not sure why Ranveer Singh chose to do that. Ranveer Singh is his own person. No one can predict his actions or motives. Personally, I remain unaffected by such matters because my viewpoint differs. My identity and culture are important to me; I don’t take it to heart when someone acts this way. I can see why it has become such a significant issue.”
He continued, “I hold great admiration for Rishab, who consistently advised him against it. It matters to him. He values the culture, which is why he can execute it well. Ranveer has also expressed regret for his actions. Let’s move on and forget it. That’s my perspective. I’m not instructing anyone on how to react, whether to accept his apology or not. I’m simply sharing my thoughts. People are free to respond as they wish. My views only impact me and my peace of mind. My primary concern is maintaining my mental equilibrium.”
What led to the backlash against Ranveer Singh?
Ranveer faced significant backlash for allegedly ‘mocking’ Kantara Chapter 1, a film that is deeply intertwined with religious and cultural themes. He was also criticized for referring to Chavundi Daiva as a ‘female ghost’. In the widely circulated video, Rishab was seen laughing. However, it was later clarified that the Kantara Chapter 1 actor-director had intervened to stop Ranveer from the impersonation.
In response to the criticism, Ranveer released a statement on social media, stating, "My goal was to showcase Rishab's remarkable performance in the film. As an actor, I understand the effort it takes to portray that scene as he did, and I have the highest regard for him. I have always held deep respect for every culture, tradition, and belief in our nation. If I have offended anyone, I sincerely apologize."
Gulshan is currently in the midst of filming Maa Inti Bangaram, which is set to finalize its release date for 2026.
