The Don 3 situation has become a significant topic in Bollywood, centered around actor Ranveer Singh's unexpected departure from the anticipated film.
This led Farhan Akhtar's Excel Entertainment to seek around Rs 45 crore in compensation for losses incurred during pre-production. The incident ignited a widespread discussion within the industry regarding the balance between actors' contractual obligations and their creative liberties. In the midst of this, Suniel Shetty has shared his thoughts on the matter, asserting that no individual or group has the right to prohibit an artist or their work, emphasizing that such issues would not hold up in court. He commended both Farhan and Ranveer, suggesting that the situation could have been resolved through direct communication.
Suniel Shetty addresses the Don 3 situation
In an interview with The Times Group Editor-in-Chief Navika Kumar on Baatein Dil Se, Suniel Shetty commented on the Don 3 situation. He stated, "No one can prohibit an actor, no one can prohibit art. No one has that authority. The Supreme Court would dismiss the case immediately."
He continued, "Farhan is quite reasonable, and so is Ranveer. I genuinely believe that if they were to meet, they could create something extraordinary." Supporting Ranveer Singh, Shetty remarked, "Who are you to impose a ban? Consider that this individual has contributed significantly to the industry... Why would you want to restrict him? If you prohibit something that audiences wish to see, what are you really trying to accomplish?"
What transpired between Farhan Akhtar and Ranveer Singh?
The Don 3 controversy arose when Ranveer Singh withdrew from the film just before production was set to commence, despite being announced as the new lead for the franchise in 2023. Reports indicated that the actor had concerns regarding the script, budget alterations, and director Farhan Akhtar's availability due to other obligations. However, Farhan and producer Ritesh Sidhwani reportedly contested these assertions, referencing discussions that indicated Ranveer had previously shown excitement for the project.
After Ranveer's departure, Excel Entertainment allegedly sought compensation for pre-production losses, which included expenses for look tests and location scouting. Reports also suggested that Ranveer proposed a settlement that included immediate compensation and a reduced fee for a future project, but this offer was reportedly turned down. The issue was subsequently taken up by the Federation of Western India Cine Employees, which issued a non-cooperation directive against the actor, while the Producers Guild of India also became involved in attempts to mediate the situation.
In April, FWICE issued a non-cooperation directive against Ranveer Singh following a complaint from Farhan Akhtar. Ranveer's legal representatives challenged this action, arguing that the federation did not have the authority to impose such a directive. After mediation by IMPPA, FWICE rescinded the order in early June.
