The demise of veteran filmmaker Bharathiraja has cast a shadow over the Indian film industry, with tributes pouring in from actors, directors, and fans nationwide. Renowned for his contributions to Tamil cinema through authentic storytelling and rural narratives, his legacy is being honored. Revathy was among the first to voice her sorrow, acknowledging Bharathiraja for influencing her career. In a heartfelt message, she stated that she owed her cinematic journey to the filmmaker, who discovered her through a magazine photograph. Revathy made her debut in Mann Vasanai (1983) and later collaborated with him in Pudhumai Penn and Oru Kaidhiyin Diary. Sarathkumar also shared a message expressing his sadness over the loss of the legend.
Khushbu Sundar also honored his memory, describing Bharathiraja’s passing as a significant loss for Tamil cinema. She referred to his films as benchmarks in the industry and reminisced about his kindness and personal connections with actors. Filmmaker Arun Matheswaran, who directed Bharathiraja in Rocky (2021), remembered him as someone who “lived and breathed cinema,” noting that collaborating with him was a pivotal moment in his career.
Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan expressed sorrow over the loss of the legendary filmmaker and Padma Shri awardee Bharathiraja, calling it an irreplaceable loss to the Indian film community. He remarked that Bharathiraja’s films garnered admiration not only from Tamil audiences but also from viewers of Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada cinema. He highlighted notable films like Aaraadhana, created with his brother Megastar Chiranjeevi, and Seethakoka Chiluka, which gained national acclaim. Describing Bharathiraja as a filmmaker who beautifully depicted rural life and human connections, he extended his condolences to the family and fans, asserting that his legacy will endure.
Chiranjeevi also conveyed his sorrow over Bharathiraja's passing, referring to him as one of Indian cinema’s finest storytellers. He stated that the filmmaker transformed village life, human relationships, the purity of love, and everyday emotions into timeless cinematic art that resonated with millions and inspired countless filmmakers. He noted that Bharathiraja, a Padma Shri awardee and multiple National Film Award recipient, made an invaluable contribution to Indian cinema.
Chiranjeevi also reminisced about working under his direction as Puliraju in Aaradana, mentioning that Bharathiraja’s enthusiasm for cinema, simplicity, and commitment left a profound impact on him. He added that although the filmmaker has passed, his legacy will persist through his films, and he extended his condolences to his family, friends, and admirers.
Actors and filmmakers, including Sibi Sathyaraj, also expressed their sorrow, calling Bharathiraja’s work a “textbook of filmmaking.” His father Sathyaraj had partnered with the director in several projects.
