Angelina Jolie mentioned that she has been steering clear of numerous "hurtful" aspects related to her and ex-spouse Brad Pitt's legal disputes that culminated
in their separation. Reflecting on the factors that prompted her decision to end her marriage with the actor, Jolie recounted the divestment of her stake in the French vineyard Château Miraval, which she previously co-owned with Pitt. The 50-year-old disclosed that neither she nor her six children have set foot in the vineyard since their split in 2016. Jolie and Pitt are parents to six children: Maddox (24), Pax (21), and Zahara (20), who are adopted, along with Shiloh (19) and twins Vivienne and Knox (17), who are their biological children.
Jolie refrained from visiting the vineyard during 'challenging time'
As reported by E! News, Jolie stated in a personal statement submitted to a California court on October 9, "The circumstances that led to my decision to part ways with my ex-husband were emotionally taxing for both me and our children."
"When I filed for divorce, I relinquished control (and full residency) of our family residences in Los Angeles and at Miraval, without any compensation, hoping it would ease his interactions with me following a challenging and distressing time," Jolie elaborated. "To this day, neither the children nor I have returned to the property, due to its association with the painful circumstances surrounding the divorce."
Miraval was among their initial investments
Jolie indicated in the court filings that she and Pitt began "to have intermittent discussions" in early 2017 regarding him purchasing her shares in the estate. She expressed, "These conversations were always challenging for me, given my strong emotional connections to our family home there and the way our relationship concluded. Miraval was one of the first significant investments we made together, and it was central to our family life. We were married there, I spent part of my pregnancy there, and I brought our twins home from the hospital there. "Experiencing such an abrupt separation from my home and memories has been difficult, and it was particularly hard for the children to have their lives so unsettled."

'Broadened NDA' to 'muffle' her
Jolie claimed that Pitt ultimately consented to purchase her shares in return for a "broadened NDA" that would "muffle" her from discussing the reasons for their divorce.
"As the mother of our children and an advocate for victims of violence globally, I found his request deeply distressing. I could not comply with this coercive demand," Jolie stated in her court declaration, noting that she "informed Pitt and his legal team of her intention to sell her shares of Miraval to a third party instead."
Jolie eventually completed the transaction with Stoli Group's Tenute del Mondo in 2021, which was later contested by Pitt, who alleged that she sold her stake without his consent.
