Malayalam icon Mohanlal’s mother,Santhakumari, passed away on December 30, 2025. Tthe esteemed actor’s mother was 90 years old. She passed away at her home

Her passing creates a significant absence in Mohanlal's life, as he regarded his mother as a wellspring of motivation. On various occasions, through public forums and posts, he has shared the profound impact she had on both his film career and personal life. In an earlier interview, Mohanlal discussed his mother and her support for his father during his health struggles.

In a conversation with Manorama, Mohanlal disclosed that his father experienced memory loss. In spite of this challenge, his mother Santhakumari cared for him deeply. He mentioned that his mother held his father's hand throughout the ordeal. He described her as a selfless individual, devoted to his father's well-being. "Typically, people hesitate to take relatives suffering from memory loss out of their homes. However, my mother made sure that my father did not miss any events due to his condition and brought him to all celebrations. She patiently repeated the same information to him time and again. She even fed him as if he were a child."
He continued to recount the occasion when his parents attended a screening of one of his films and how his mother articulated the finer details, even though he was uncertain if his father recognized him on screen. "Once, both of us took my father to the cinema to see one of my films. I can't say for sure if my father recognized me on screen. But I was deeply moved to see my parents enjoying the film – reminiscent of their early romance. Grasping her hand, my father listened intently as my mother elaborated on even the subtle aspects of the movie. No medical professional instructed her on how to care for patients afflicted by illness. So who taught my mother to nurture my father with such love and tenderness? No mother requires instruction ... that embodies the essence of motherhood."
Mohanlal is the youngest of Santhakumari and Viswanathan Nair’s two offspring. She lost her elder son, Pyarelal, in 2000.
