What is the story about?
Music composer Tapas Relia, who recently contributed to the series featuring Madhuri Dixit titled Mrs Deshpande, which premiered on December 19th on Disney+
Hotstar and was directed by Nagesh Kukunoor, has been in the spotlight for his contributions. Tapas has also been involved in notable films such as Hanuman, Lakshmi, City of Dreams, Mod, Dhanak, and has provided background scores for Ferrari Ki Sawaari, Rudra: The Edge of Darkness, and The Hunt – The Rajiv Gandhi Assassination Case, among others. He has now created the title track and the background score for Mrs Deshpande.
Exclusive Interview with Tapas Relia
In a special interview with Zoom, Relia shared his thoughts on collaborating with the iconic actress Madhuri Dixit. He remarked, "Working on Mrs. Deshpande has been a remarkably seamless experience since I have previously collaborated on several projects with Nagesh. Having worked with this team before, there was a sense of familiarity and comfort, and the rapport Nagesh and I share is very amicable; he comprehends my creative space, and I grasp his needs, making the overall experience quite smooth."
He further mentioned, "Naturally, there is always pressure to perform, especially with Madhuri Dixit involved, as it is a significant project with high stakes. However, having a familiar team helps alleviate that pressure. Working with Nagesh sir has consistently been a delightful experience, especially since we have collaborated on numerous projects together, creating a very friendly work environment. For the first episode, where we are developing themes and exploring different sound palettes, he understands my creative space, and I understand his needs, fostering a respectful, friendly, and light-hearted atmosphere."
Regarding his collaboration with Dixit, the composer expressed, "Working with Madhuri Dixit is certainly a unique experience; while she may not be present during the scoring for this series, her spirit is undeniably felt. You cannot overlook the fact that Madhuri Dixit is part of this show, which serves as a constant reminder and adds a layer of pressure."
Tapas Relia's Favorite Films
"I don't have a specific list of directors I wish to work with, but I do have a collection of favorite films that have inspired me, such as Rockstar, Rang De Basanti, Swades. These films are genre-defining, groundbreaking, and trend-setting; they appear infrequently and challenge the norms of commercial cinema. I would love to work on such films and with teams that prioritize the craft over the end result," Relia concluded.
Tapas began his journey by composing and arranging music for corporate and radio advertisements. He has since created music for hundreds of advertisements and brand campaigns for prominent clients, including the Amaron Batteries campaign, Domino’s Pizza – Pizza Aaye Free, the Hero Honda (2010) campaign, the IPL Mumbai Indians anthem, and various TV promo campaigns for shows like Mahabharata (2013), Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 3, Bigg Boss, and MasterChef India.
